Where your words and projects are stored
Your words are processed in your browser. Here's what that means for saved projects, downloaded files and shared devices.
Your text is processed in your browser
When you paste text or open a supported TXT, CSV or project JSON file, the editor processes it on your device. Your words are not sent to a server for layout or conversion. There is no account, cloud project list or public gallery, so you choose which finished files to save and share.
The editor accepts local text and project files. It cannot import a webpage, PDF or Word document directly, or use an uploaded image or SVG as a new shape. If your words are in another format, make a text or CSV copy first and remove anything you don't want in the artwork.
The website still needs a network connection to load
Opening a page downloads the app, fonts and public examples from the website. Those ordinary requests reach the hosting service and can include information such as your IP address. This release does not run advertising or analytics on any page. Using the editor without an account does not make normal website requests disappear.
Your edits do not personalize the public Blog, Docs or example pages, and your submitted words are not added to page URLs. The public examples use sample wording. Links between those pages and the editor open as full page visits; they do not turn your private project into a public link.
A browser save is not a backup
Save on this device keeps one project in that browser profile for this website. Clearing site data, switching devices or losing the browser profile can remove it. Private browsing and storage limits can also affect saving. Check the save message and download a project JSON when you need a separate copy you can keep.
Someone using the same browser profile may be able to open the saved project. Avoid leaving personal work on a shared computer, and use Clear saved project when you are finished. This removes the browser's saved copy; it does not protect files in a shared download folder or secure a device that someone else can access.
Know what is in each download
| File | What it contains |
|---|---|
| Project JSON | Your words, weights, settings and word positions. |
| Word list CSV | The words and weights from the editable list. |
| SVG, PNG or PDF | The visible artwork. SVG and PDF can also contain the optional title as metadata. |
| Public page URL | The page or example identifier, without your submitted word list. |
Clearing browser data leaves downloaded files where they are. Check your downloads folder, backups and any synced folders separately if you want to remove those copies. Sending artwork to a printer or another person shares the information in that file, so read the text and optional title before you send it.
Before leaving a shared device
- Remove personal details the artwork does not need.
- Download a project JSON if you want to edit it later.
- Check where the file was saved and that it opens.
- Use Clear saved project to remove the browser copy.
- Delete unwanted downloads and other copies separately.
Keep only the copies you need and share the version you have checked. A project JSON is useful for someone helping you edit, but it also contains the full word list. A finished artwork file may be all the recipient needs. Choose the file that suits the task and the information you want to share.
